17  The Return: A Bloom in Her Heart

The sun rose gently over the sea as Mia packed her little suitcase. Her traditional Madeira dress lay folded with care, a flower from Santana tucked neatly beside it.

She and Little Bird stood together at the edge of a cliff, watching the morning light dance across the waves.

“It’s time to go home,” Mia whispered.

Little Bird nodded. “But the island will stay with you. It’s in your stories, your dreams, and your heart.”

As the plane soared into the sky, Mia looked down at the island—its mountains, forests, villages, and secret coves. Each place held a memory, a friend, a magical whisper.

In her notebook, she began to draw. A dolphin. A bell. A swan. A rainbow waterfall. A monk seal. A crow on a chapel roof.

Mia smiled.

She didn’t just visit Madeira—she had become part of its story.

And wherever she went next, she knew she would carry its wonder with her.

Always blooming. Always exploring. Always Mia.
