3 Calheta: A Dolphin’s Gratitude

Little Bird soared above winding streets that led to a golden beach bathed in sunshine. The ocean sparkled like a sea of diamonds.
Mia skipped onto the warm sand. “This place is a dream, Little Bird! Calheta is beautiful!”
Children laughed and splashed in the shallows. Mia sat, toes buried in the soft sand, when something unusual rippled in the distance.
“Little Bird, can you check what that is in the water?”
Little Bird fluttered over and chirped anxiously. Mia’s heart skipped a beat. She ran and dove into the sea.
Beneath the surface, she found a baby dolphin with a plastic bag wrapped around her nose. The dolphin’s eyes were wide with fear. Gently, Mia stroked her and removed the plastic.
The dolphin chirped in joy and leapt high into the air, sending a waterfall of glittering droplets over Mia and Little Bird.
Moments later, the sea came alive. A whole pod of dolphins surrounded them—Baby Dolphin had brought her family! The mother nudged Mia lovingly. The father gave her a playful push onto the mother’s back.
They danced and twirled through the waves—somersaults, splashes, and joy. Little Bird soared above them, laughing in the wind.
As the dolphins carried Mia close to shore, she hugged Baby Dolphin one last time and kissed her nose.
Back on the beach, Mia placed the plastic bag in a recycling bin. But she saw more rubbish and began collecting it with Little Bird.
“Every small act matters,” she whispered. “If each of us picks up just a little, we can protect all this beauty.”
The sun dipped low, painting the sky in colors that matched Mia’s heart—warm, wild, and full of hope.
